Menya zovut Shnur

"Still great"

submission: Menya zovut Shnur
date: August 12, 2009

Still a great video.

So the debate continues ... or just began again ...

As a Hessian, I can say emphatically that this is not German. The lyrics are Russian, with a handful of English and French tossed in for good measure. Russians would be MORE insulted (if that is possible) to have their laguage compared to german than Dutch. Tag teamed from Russian, through German, to English, as best we can make out:

Fuck. fuck. fuck. fuck.
Fuck. fuck. fuck. fuck.

We have too many kings and too many fools
Everyone yells %uFFFDnot dead%uFFFD, I say %uFFFDfuck off%uFFFD
Mumij can%uFFFDt be understood %uFFFD is he a fool, is he a king?
No easy role that Mumij's got!
%uFFFDBi%uFFFD isn%uFFFDt two, %uFFFDbi%uFFFD is zero.
%uFFFDChaif%uFFFD is no fun, it is "oh-so-painful"
A strange city is Leningrad
It was the cultural capital, and now it's nothing but profanity.

Chorus:
They call me shnur, they call me shnur.
I will come to you in your dreams, mon ami.
With cripples, and uglies,
With junkies, mon amour.

%uFFFDDDT%uFFFD %uFFFD that used to be pesticide.
It's been stinking for so long that my nose hurts.
%uFFFDAquarium%uFFFD is the place with snakes and reptiles,
Everyone is afraid to watch and these are only too happy.
Oh! someone%uFFFDs heart has stopped again...
New people? Don't they have enough old ones?
It%uFFFDs really hard to be a small horse,
I didn%uFFFDt try it, but they say it%uFFFDs possible.

Chorus:
They call me shnur, they call me shnur.
I will come to you in your dreams, mon ami.
With cripples, and uglies,
With junkies, mon amour.

The %uFFFDtime machine%uFFFD is stuck in its time,
And they can%uFFFDt rid of that burden.
%uFFFDDances minus%uFFFD or %uFFFDdances plus%uFFFD
I like neither whiners nor blues.
Rap used to be total shit,
But now i start the job here.
The song is over, soon is the finish,
When I shove it up %uFFFD no fucking way you%uFFFDll get it out!

Chorus:
They call me shnur, they call me shnur.
I will come to you in your dreams, mon ami.
With cripples, and uglies,
With junkies, mon amour.

Shino dress up game

"Bad start"

date: July 30, 2006

It's a DECENT, and I emphasize merely decent, dress-up that is completely undercut by the fact that you have slapped 4.8MB of unoptimized audio on top of 200kb of AS.

Way down at the bottom of the page, after you click SUBMIT but before you actually submit your flash, is a link labelled "Learn About Audio Optimization." Use it, live it, love it.

Dodge Bot

"Decent"

submission: Dodge Bot
date: March 21, 2006

A decent variety of animations to at least keep it interesting for a bit, but work on the audio. "Heaven Cries" is ~20k larger than your flash, so you obviously did SOME work on it, but you need to do more.

This is essentially a time waster that most people will play with for a little bit, then promptly forget about. As such, it shoudn't be larger than 200k. If you want to stick with just that one song, hack a 10-15 second long sound loop out of the song and use that. If you want to put some more effort into it, grab a few smaller loops off the AP and let the user choose which they listen to. Either way should allow you to still remain WELL on the small size of things.

My bet is this passes, and IMO it should, just don't let that fool you into thinking that unoptimized full audio is a good thing.

Author's Response:

Great thanks. I wondered why such a little flash took so long to load.

submission: txtWurld - txtBob
date: February 19, 2006

The premise of txtWurld was interesting enough to hold my interest, despite the slow start. The first couple of scenes are missing some important details, like what the hell happened in the "real" Wurld.

What really got me giggling was the roflcopter. Stunning interpretation, and great execution of the concept. Well done =)

Are we up to the 5th you've submitted X4 with a new name yet? Your colour scheme still stinks, you still consistently find a way to hide buttons behind stolen (and crappy) images, and your quiz is still broken.

Author's Response:

There to expensive... hahaha...

Bio Sweeper Trailer

"Well done"

date: February 14, 2006

Don't mind the whiners. No matter what you do, you can't please everyone ... but this is going to please most of them ;)

As to your question, I'd say do both a game (series) and movie, ala Resident Evil, et al. What's always seems to work best is going back and forth between the two. This trailer sets the backstory for the game. The game then finishes with some unanswered question, which sets the stage for the next movie(s), which are used to establish the storyline for the second game, and so on. As a bonus, it allows you to go back and forth between working on a game and a movie, giving some variety in the actual work while remaining focused on the same plotline.

Even this backstory still has some background gaps that still need to get filled in ... like why Muzukashii went from whining about the time to an "I'll be right there" upon hearing about Ray's disappearance, what is Melon Corp and why do they have their own :on call" assault team, who trained the Sweepers (save the master is always good for a game basis), when did Kirby become a PDA, and so on. Plenty of loose ends upon which you can base later projects =)

Graphically, I've got one issue with the flash. The variety of different 3D styles you are using is visually jarring. Granted, as a trailer, it's not actually supposed to have an overall flow to it, but switching during the upcoming game(s) or movie(s) is going to mentally break people out of whatever scene you are staging.

I'm looking forward to how this turns out. Good luck!

A MAJOR bug is the inability to reuse numbers. Once a 2 (or 3 or whatever) is placed in a location, we should be able to then get another 2 and drop it someplace else. When grabbing a new 2, you simply start moving the old one around again.

Once that issue is resolved, this will be a nice game, with the drawback that it's only one puzzle to be solved.

Author's Response:

Well this was my first and the last game I ever made..=P Sorry about that bug..

Wack-A-Goomba

"Good, but ..."

submission: Wack-A-Goomba
date: February 4, 2006

The game itself is, as you mentioned, a nice little time waster. Smooth game play, no bugs I could find, overall a solid game.

That said, there's just not enough to the flash to warrant 4.3MB. For a mini-game, the file size is massive. You need to take a machette to some of the audio and optimize the rest to streamline the game. Something like this is a so-so game at present file size, OK at ~500kb, and great under 200kb.

Minor tweaks:
Either shorten the timer, or allow the user to choose game length. Usually around 30 or 60 seconds is enough, while with 100 you keep looking at the time remainaing wondering why you aren't done yet.

Since the rest of the graphics and audio are Mario related, I don't see why the target is a spinning square. A mallet (ala Donkey Kong) or tortoise shell might be more appropriate.

Author's Response:

The file size is big becuse of the music, I didn't want the music to sound crappy, and ill shorten the time

Your buttons lead to the wrong instructions ...

Too little information, too few scripts, no humor to make it interesting, no demonstrations of use of scripts.

Author's Response:

Ill do more in Version 2, more scripts, explanation, maybe humor and possibly sound.

Thanks for the review <3<3

TUTORIAL : "Tazers!"

"Interesting, but"

date: February 13, 2005

The simple fact is that you are describing how to manufacture a weapon.

Just because I know how to make a bomb out of household solvents does not mean that I should disseminate that knowledge, especially in an environment such as NG. Your "for informational only" comment won't help you if legal proceedings arise due to someone following your instructions to create it, then "disobeying" your instructions and actually using it.

At first glance a gun is a gun, and if someone pulls it on you you know what you're dealing with. Your taser looks like an innocuous camera. So, not only are you describing the manufacture of a weapon, you are elaborating how to do so in such a manner that it can be concealed in plain sight and used indiscriminantly on unsuspecting victims.

You might want to use some of that intellect of yours to think a little further ahead ...

Author's Response:

the disclaimer makes me feel fuzzy inside.
